The two warring factions in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos chapter of the Labour Party, have resolved their differences and have decided to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
Leaders and members of the two factions, who met with the state leadership of the party in Lagos at the weekend, emphasised the importance of unity.
Addressing journalists during the all-inclusive stakeholders meeting, Moses Akujobi (secretary), said the reconciliation is geared towards having a formidable force to deliver the local government for the Labour Party ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.
“We convene the meeting to declare our resolve to stand together even in the face of the crisis we are seeing in Labour Party at the higher level. The power lies in the grassroots. So, we can’t allow the grassroots to disintegrate because of the present challenges we have at the national. We know that united we are stronger and divided we fall.
Similarly, we want to use this medium to debunk assertions within some quarters in the LGA. Such statements are unlikely for political progress. We heard some claiming they delivered Alimosho for Labour Party. We need to unequivocally state that the people who believe in a new Nigeria delivered Alimosho for Labour Party. Alimosho has been under political bondage for 24 years and surprisingly, those of you that are seated here today were able to break that jinx,” he stated.
He, however, called on the national leadership to follow their footsteps and reconcile all the differences within the party.
Reacting, Comrade Olushola Heritage Olarenwaju and Pharmacist Kehinde Mamudu (the two factional leaders in the LG), appreciated all the party faithful within the local government and promised to work together going forward.
Stakeholders present at the meeting include: The Lagos State Labour Party Chairman Pastor Dr Dayo Ekong, ably represented by Comrade Paul Igene, State Youth Leader, Hon Pius Omodaratan, Comrade Tony Masha from Yaba Labour Party, Barrister Affiong Affiong from the NTC, Hon. Ife Salako, the Lagos LP spokesperson, Alimosho’s LP former chairman, Hon. Churchill Ejiofor, Comrade Loretta Onyeka (NLC), amongst others.
