The Nigerian National Grid has faced a partial collapse, marking its ninth failure in 2024 and the fourth in October alone.
Gists9ja reports that as of 10:08 PM on Tuesday, power generation dropped to 2,037.2 megawatts, with major power plants like Sapele and Rivers IPP reporting no output, leading to widespread outages.
This incident compounds ongoing issues within the power sector, despite government assurances aimed at improving service delivery.
Notably, all northern states except Niger and Kwara have been without electricity for two weeks, with Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Gombe, and Katsina particularly affected by complete blackouts.
Additionally, the outages extend to Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Benue. The initial power disruptions in northern Nigeria began when vandals damaged the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, which is the primary power supply route for the region.
