Police Vow to Achieve Justice in Ikwechegh's Assault Case with Bolt Driver

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated an unbiased investigation into an incident involving House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh, who is accused of assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja.

It was reported that a confrontation occurred between Ikwechegh and the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, while he was delivering a package in the Maitama area. This altercation allegedly escalated into Ikwechegh assaulting the driver and threatening to make him “disappear” from Nigeria without facing any consequences.

A viral video shared on social media reportedly captures Ikwechegh, representing the Aba North and South Federal Constituency, slapping and verbally abusing the driver for asking him to approach the car to collect the delivery. In the video, Ikwechegh is seen threatening the driver, asserting that his position in the House of Representatives would protect him from any repercussions, even if the Inspector-General of Police was notified.

Additionally, he is accused of damaging the driver’s phone, tearing his clothes, and refusing to pay for the service while making further threats.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday, the police highlighted their commitment to conducting a fair investigation to ensure justice for all parties involved. The statement addressed the incident that occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence in Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, and reaffirmed the police’s dedication to objectivity and justice.
