The 36 Nigerian state governors, through the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), acknowledged the widespread hunger and hardship Nigerians face during an emergency meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
Following the meeting, they expressed sympathy for citizens and affirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, shared that the governors appreciate the President’s efforts to revive the economy. During the meeting, the NGF received a presentation from the African Medical Center of Excellence, funded by the African Bank, which will be equipped with advanced medical technology and collaborate with King’s College Hospital London to become a top-tier medical referral center.
Additionally, the Supervisory Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) briefed the governors on the complete subsidy removal and the company’s efforts to alleviate the burden of rising prices on Nigerians. Uzodinma expressed optimism for positive change soon, hoping for relief to reach the public quickly.
The governors also met with the new Director General of the Department of Security Services, who outlined new strategies to combat insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, and other security issues across Nigeria. The governors pledged their support, emphasizing that a united approach would promote stability and safety, creating a favorable environment for both governance and private sector growth.
Governor Uzodinma reiterated the NGF’s commitment to support both the government and private sector initiatives to improve living standards, reduce business costs, and advance national unity.
He emphasized the importance of local refinery development, advocating for Nigeria to become self-sufficient in petroleum production. He argued that domestic refining would create jobs, reduce crime, and enable Nigeria to fully benefit as an oil-producing nation.
In conclusion, the NGF remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s reforms and the unity and prosperity of Nigeria.
