The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced that traders at Apo Mechanic Village will need to relocate to serve the broader public interest.
Wike made this statement on Tuesday while inspecting the progress of the left-hand service carriageway construction of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), running from Ring Road 1 (Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway) to Wasa Junction.
Located along the OSEX corridor, Apo Mechanic Village falls within the planned path of the road project.
The minister assured that a committee assigned to oversee the traders’ relocation is actively working to move them to a permanent site in Wasa for the greater good.
He noted that traders were already informed about the road’s intended route through their area, and the FCTA does not foresee any issues regarding their relocation.
“The committee is handling the process. The road is going to pass through that location, so there shouldn’t be any problem,” Wike stated.
“We have communicated that when the time comes, they will need to relocate for the public benefit. This isn’t for any individual’s interest—it’s for everyone.”
He also emphasized that President Tinubu has directed efforts to expand road infrastructure not just within the city but also in the satellite communities.
“You might not believe it, but all these roads in the satellite towns will have solar street lights—a first for these areas,” he added.
“It’s remarkable; we’re pleased with the progress, and the contractors’ efforts are aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda. People can clearly see the impact—this isn’t just talk.”
