The national power grid faced another collapse on Tuesday.
Our correspondent’s checks revealed that power generation was lost at approximately 1:39 PM.
At 1 PM, the grid was generating 2,711 megawatts, down from a peak of 3,631 MW earlier in the day.
In the morning, generation had reached a high of 3,934.77 MW around 6 AM.
However, from 2 PM to 3 PM, the hourly generation fell to zero.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed a “partial disturbance” of the national grid at about 1:52 PM on November 5, 2024.
TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that this incident resulted from a series of line and generator failures that led to grid instability and a subsequent partial disturbance.
She noted that data from the National Control Centre indicated that some areas of the grid remained unaffected by the widespread power disruption.
“TCN engineers are actively working to restore bulk power supply to the states impacted by the partial disturbance. Power supply to Abuja was restored by 2:49 PM, and we are gradually bringing it back to other regions of the country.
“We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience this may cause to our electricity customers,” she added.
