The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has strongly refuted reports claiming that she is planning to organize a national prayer event.
The reports, which had circulated widely, suggested that Senator Tinubu, along with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, would be leading a prayer gathering aimed at addressing the nation’s challenges. These claims were met with significant backlash, with many Nigerians questioning the purpose and need for such an event.
In response to the misinformation, Busola Kukoyi, the Senior Special Adviser to the First Lady on Media, issued a statement on Saturday clarifying the situation. Kukoyi emphasized that the reports circulating on both conventional and social media platforms were baseless and misleading. The statement explicitly stated: “This is to clarify and inform the general public that the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, is not organizing a National Prayer.”
She further urged the public to disregard the rumors and false reports that had been spreading online, noting that the First Lady had no involvement in planning such a national prayer event. While Senator Tinubu is a devout Christian and a strong advocate for the power of prayer, she believes that prayer should be a voluntary and sincere act, carried out in good faith by individuals rather than being driven by external pressures.
The statement continued, stressing that prayer for the well-being of the nation is a responsibility shared by all Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs, political affiliations, or ethnic backgrounds. “Praying for Nigeria is a duty of every Nigerian,” the statement affirmed.
