Pastor Enoch Adeboye recently attributed Nigeria’s exchange rate stability to the power of prayer, suggesting that without divine intervention, the naira could have weakened to N10,000 per dollar.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) made these remarks at the Special Holy Ghost Congress held in Abuja. During his address, the 82-year-old spiritual leader pointed to Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel as a significant factor in the nation’s economic challenges, despite being an oil-producing country.
“We are in desperate need of help, and it’s not human help that will save us—it’s divine assistance,” Pastor Adeboye said. He explained that before the current administration took office, it was well-known that much of Nigeria’s financial issues stemmed from the cost of importing petrol.
He continued, “Although we have an abundance of oil, we still rely on imported petrol, spending vast sums on refineries that have remained ineffective for years.”
Pastor Adeboye also discussed the implications of the government’s recent decision to remove fuel subsidies, noting that it upset those who benefited from the system and resulted in further economic challenges. He emphasized the crucial role of prayer, concluding, “If God had not intervened, we could be looking at an exchange rate of N10,000 to one dollar. This truly shows how much we need prayer in our nation.”
