US President-elect Donald Trump has officially named Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his choice to head the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
This announcement was made on Thursday via a statement posted on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
In his statement, Trump expressed his enthusiasm about Kennedy’s appointment, outlining the significant role he believes the Department of Health and Human Services will play under Kennedy’s leadership. He emphasized that the agency’s primary mission will be to protect Americans from dangerous chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that he claims have contributed to the nation’s ongoing health crisis.
Trump wrote: “I am excited to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the next Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). For far too long, Americans have suffered under the influence of the industrial food sector and pharmaceutical companies, which have engaged in widespread misinformation and deception regarding public health.”
He further stated, “The safety and health of every American is the top priority of any administration, and HHS will be at the forefront of ensuring that our citizens are shielded from harmful substances that have played a role in the escalating health issues in our country.”
Trump went on to praise Kennedy’s background, noting that his leadership would focus on returning the department to its roots of gold-standard scientific research and transparency. “Mr. Kennedy will restore these agencies to their commitment to high-quality, unbiased scientific inquiry, while working to combat the epidemic of chronic disease and ultimately Make America Great and Healthy Again.”
