BREAKING: ISWAP Militants Launch Attack on Community in Borno State

Terrorists believed to be members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a brutal assault early on Saturday morning in the town of Kareto, located in the Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to local sources, the attackers stormed the town at dawn, catching residents off guard. The assailants wreaked havoc, damaging numerous homes and properties across the community. The extent of the destruction remains unclear, but initial reports suggest widespread damage.

A resident of Kareto, who requested to remain anonymous for safety reasons, shared with reporters that the community is in a state of panic, with locals anxiously awaiting the arrival of security forces to restore order and provide assistance. The delay in military response has left the town vulnerable to further attacks and fueled concerns about the ability of local authorities to secure the area.

Zagazola Makama, a renowned counter-insurgency expert who monitors terrorist activities in northeastern Nigeria, confirmed the attack via a post on his social media platform, X. His report further highlighted the rising frequency of such attacks in the region, underscoring the ongoing security challenges faced by local communities. As of now, the full scope of casualties and the attackers’ objectives remains under investigation.
