Reno Omokri, a prominent social media influencer, has come under intense scrutiny following his recent controversial comment about Pastor Becky Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre.
Omokri referred to the pastor as a “Yahoo girl on the altar,” a remark that has sparked widespread outrage, especially in response to Pastor Enenche’s defense of tithing. His statement has led to severe criticism from various quarters, particularly the Nigeria Youths Frontiers and Peace Advocates (NYFPA).
In a public statement signed by Samuel Geofrey, the NYFPA’s National Publicity Secretary, the group condemned Omokri’s words, calling them “inflammatory, baseless, and deeply irresponsible.” They accused him of showing disrespect towards Christianity and undermining public discourse with such reckless remarks. The statement further read, “His comments are an affront to millions of Nigerians who hold their faith and spiritual leaders in high regard.”
NYFPA also highlighted concerns that Omokri’s choice of words was part of a broader attempt to stay relevant by using divisive rhetoric, pointing to what they describe as contradictions in his career, personal life, and political affiliations. The group emphasized that this controversy went beyond Pastor Becky Enenche, representing an attack on the faith of millions of Nigerians.
“The issue at hand is not just about Pastor Becky; it is about the dignity of millions of Nigerians who cherish and honor their religious beliefs,” the statement continued. The group also called on Nigerians to reject such divisive narratives and instead promote peaceful dialogue, mutual respect, and a focus on unity.
The NYFPA reiterated its commitment to fostering peace and expressed that Omokri’s comments were damaging to social harmony. “We must resist narratives that sow discord within our society,” they stated.
