JUST IN: Popular Lawyer and Activist Shot Dead [PHOTO]

A lawyer and activist based in Otukpo, Benue State, Mike Ofikwu, was tragically killed by unknown assailants in a shocking attack at his residence. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, around 8 p.m., outside his home on Otukpa Street in Otukpo Local Government Area.

According to eyewitness accounts, Ofikwu had just returned home from work and was waiting for his gate to be opened when two armed men in a vehicle approached him. Without warning, the men opened fire on him at close range before quickly fleeing the scene. “It felt like something straight out of a movie,” one witness, who wished to remain anonymous, shared. “He had barely arrived and was waiting by the gate when the assailants, seemingly tracking him, shot him before speeding off.”

The loud gunshots attracted the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to his aid and took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Ofikwu succumbed to his injuries after losing a considerable amount of blood.

The Benue State Police, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack and expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. Anene assured the public that an investigation is underway and that law enforcement authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
