Four Nigerian nationals have been apprehended by Libyan authorities on charges related to drug trafficking and for testing positive for infectious diseases. The arrests took place in two separate locations: the Sabha and Bani Walid areas of Libya.
According to reports, the suspects were detained following a raid carried out by the Libyan Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The raid occurred on Monday, November 26, and was confirmed by Migrant Rescue Watch in a post shared on X. During the operation, authorities recovered a significant haul of illicit substances, including 1,200 hallucinogenic pills, among other controlled drugs.
Following the raid, the arrested individuals were transferred to the Sabha Security Directorate for further questioning and investigation. Migrant Rescue Watch, in their statement, detailed that the CID in Sabha had acted on intelligence regarding the suspects’ activities and successfully raided the premises where the drugs were stored. The agency confirmed that both of the arrested Nigerians were involved in drug trafficking and were subsequently handed over to the local security forces for ongoing investigation.
The discovery of the hallucinogenic pills and other illegal substances has raised concerns about the growing issue of drug trafficking in the region, as well as the potential health risks posed by the spread of infectious diseases, with the suspects reportedly testing positive for various infections.
