The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially declared Friday, November 29, 2024, as a work-free day in the state. This declaration has been made in honor of the late First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, on Wednesday, November 27, revealed that the public holiday is intended to allow residents of the state to participate in the funeral rites and pay their final respects to the late First Lady, which will take place in her hometown of Ikot Ekpene Udo, located in the Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, the beloved wife of Governor Umo Eno, passed away on September 26, 2024, after a brief illness at the age of 57. Her death was a significant loss to the state, as she was widely recognized for her dedicated humanitarian work, particularly through her initiative, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), which focused on addressing social challenges and supporting vulnerable communities.
Prince Uwah, in his statement, shared, “In line with the final home-going ceremonies for our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government, in consultation with her grieving family, has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a Work-Free Day to honor our dear mother.”
He continued, “This gesture will allow the people of Akwa Ibom and other residents to come together and pay their last respects to the late First Lady at her funeral in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.”
This work-free day reflects the deep respect and admiration held for the late First Lady, whose contributions to the state and its people will not be forgotten.
