Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Remanded as Court Adjourns Trial to December 10
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to custody following a court ruling on Wednesday.
Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja ordered Bello’s remand in EFCC custody after adjourning his trial to December 10, 2024. The adjournment will allow the court to deliberate and rule on the former governor’s bail application.
Bello is standing trial alongside two co-defendants, Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu. They are facing a 16-count charge brought against them by the EFCC, including allegations of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and misappropriation of public funds.
Bail Application Awaiting Court Decision
During Wednesday’s hearing, Bello’s legal team appealed for his release on bail, citing his presumed innocence until proven guilty. However, Justice Anenih deferred her ruling, leaving Bello and his co-defendants in EFCC custody pending the next court session.
