Chief Tony Okocha, the newly-elected chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, expressed strong confidence in the party’s ability to wrest control of the state from the Sim Fubara-led government.
Okocha made these remarks on Saturday, November 30, 2024, following his election as chairman after previously serving as the party’s caretaker committee leader for several months.
Okocha emphasized that the APC has overcome its previous challenges in organizing and contesting elections, and he assured party members and supporters that the days of APC’s inability to contest effectively are now over. He pledged that the party would contest elections in Rivers State with the goal of winning and taking over the state government.
“We are committed to ensuring we rout out the rudderless government in Rivers State today,” Okocha said, expressing his determination to challenge the current administration. He outlined the APC’s ambitious goal for the 2027 elections, which will target all levels of governance in the state, from the State House of Assembly to the office of the governor, as well as the return of President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Okocha pointed out that the APC’s plan for Rivers State was already on course, noting recent developments, including the progress at the Port Harcourt refinery. “We have told you so many times that Rome was not built in a day,” he remarked, suggesting that the party’s long-term efforts would soon bear fruit.
The statement marked a significant moment for Okocha as he assumed leadership of the APC in Rivers, signaling a renewed focus on contesting and ultimately winning key positions in the state’s political landscape.
