The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspects, Emmanuel Linus and Moses Daniel, for impersonating Nigerian Army officers.
The suspects, part of a criminal syndicate, were paraded alongside others apprehended for various crimes across the FCT by the Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, on Tuesday.
Linus was reportedly apprehended on November 30, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., wearing a full Nigerian Army camouflage uniform. During initial questioning, he presented a fraudulent military identification card, listing his date of birth as December 20, 2024, which raised immediate suspicions.
Commissioner Disu revealed that Linus and his accomplice specialized in defrauding unsuspecting victims by using fake bank alerts to purchase goods and services. Investigations into the syndicate’s activities are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down other members. Disu assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
Crackdown on Vehicles with Violations
In another development, the FCT Police Command has impounded 296 vehicles for violating directives on tinted windows, missing or concealed license plates, and other traffic offenses.
“I am pleased to report that our Special Tactical Team has made significant progress since its launch,” Disu said. “To date, 296 vehicles have been impounded for violations such as the use of tinted glasses, driving with only one plate number, and using defaced or concealed plates.”
Arrests for Vandalism and Cable Theft
The Command also reported the arrest of two suspects, Awal Mustaf and David Maji, for vandalizing streetlight poles and stealing cables behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Notably, Maji is a dismissed police officer.
The arrests were made following five days of surveillance after suspicious activity was observed around manholes in the area. On November 29, 2024, at approximately 3:49 a.m., the suspects were caught during an operation to dismantle streetlight infrastructure.
Recovered items included two medium-sized streetlight poles, several large streetlight poles, and cables valued at an estimated ₦20 million to ₦25 million. The stolen materials were identified as property of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Disu emphasized the Command’s commitment to curbing criminal activities in the FCT, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.
