Governor Otu Directs Commissioners to Submit Performance Reports for Appraisal
The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has instructed all state commissioners to submit detailed reports of their achievements since assuming office. This directive includes progress updates on the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under their supervision, which should be submitted to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government within one week.
In a statement issued on Friday, Governor Otu explained that the move was aimed at conducting a comprehensive appraisal of the administration’s performance. He emphasized that accountability and results-driven governance are top priorities for his administration.
“I have instructed all Commissioners to submit a detailed report of the achievements and progress of their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government within one week,” Otu disclosed on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. “This directive is aimed at facilitating a thorough appraisal of our collective performance, ensuring that we remain on track to deliver on the promises and mandate entrusted to us by the people.”
Reforms and Welfare Initiatives
In addition to the performance review, Governor Otu made significant decisions during the state’s executive council meeting on Wednesday. He approved the renaming of the Secondary Education Board to the Senior Secondary Education Board (SSEB) to align with national standards and attract additional funding.
Earlier in September, Governor Otu had canceled a recruitment exercise conducted by the Secondary Education Board, citing bias in the process. He also reaffirmed his commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly in the implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage.
“We approved the renaming of the Secondary Education Board to Senior Secondary Education Board (SSEB) to align with national standards and attract funding,” Otu stated. “Additionally, I reaffirmed my commitment to workers’ welfare, including implementing the ₦70,000 minimum wage, and shared plans for rice distribution across all 196 wards to support our people during the Yuletide season.”
Governor Otu’s directives reflect his administration’s continued focus on improving governance, workers’ welfare, and meeting the needs of the state’s residents.
