Ondo Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with APC Member’s Abduction and Murder
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Mohammed Sheu (21) and Abubakar Umar (24) for their involvement in the abduction and murder of Alaba Abe, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) member, in Supare Akoko.
Abe, who coordinated the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization in Akoko South-West Local Government, was kidnapped and killed in April 2024 during the APC governorship primary buildup.
Arrest Details
The arrests were made by the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine stop-and-search operation at Ikare Junction on November 14, 2024. During the search, officers became suspicious of Sheu, who displayed unusual behavior. Upon inspecting his phone, officers discovered a voice note in which Sheu asked a contact about potential “kidnapping jobs.”
Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, confirmed the arrests and detailed the suspects’ confessions, which linked them to multiple crimes, including Abe’s murder.
“The suspects confessed to kidnapping and robbery in Kogi, Niger, Akoko, Ifon, Ipele, and Owo. They also admitted to being responsible for the abduction and murder of Alaba Abe in April,” Odunlami stated.
Modus Operandi
The suspects revealed that their operations involved:
- Identifying victims’ residences.
- Forcing entry to abduct victims.
- Taking victims to remote areas to demand ransom.
The gang also admitted to a September 2024 kidnapping at a popular hotel in Owo.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of the gang. Odunlami assured the public of the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the state.
This arrest provides a significant lead in addressing violent crimes in Ondo State and ensuring justice for victims like Abe.
