Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has sharply criticized a media aide to Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, referring to the aide as a “data boy” and a “dog seller.”
The comments were in response to criticisms of Fubara’s recent project inaugurations in the Etche-Omuma area.
Speaking during the commissioning of the remodelled Government Girls’ Secondary School in Ahoada, Governor Fubara questioned the credibility and qualifications of the aide. He accused the individual of failing to understand governance despite spending eight years close to a former governor. Fubara said, “If they love you, the appointment they gave to one boy the other day, if you were good, why didn’t they give you that appointment? Go and check yourself, something is wrong with you.”
The Governor expressed frustration with individuals who, in his view, resort to online insults rather than making meaningful contributions to society. He advised such people to reflect on their choices and focus on constructive endeavors. “We will not celebrate things that will not have meaning,” he stated.
Fubara also highlighted his administration’s approach to governance, emphasizing the need for impactful and strategic projects that address critical development needs. “Projects’ delivery is not for mere fanfare,” he said, clarifying that while his government respects past achievements, it prioritizes initiatives with lasting benefits for Rivers State.
The Governor extended his gratitude to the Ekpeye people for their unwavering support, despite facing what he described as harassment and intimidation. He cited the detention of traditional rulers and his Chief of Staff, Dr. Edison Ehie, as examples of the challenges his administration had endured.
Fubara expressed optimism that justice would prevail, stating, “The truth is always clear: enemies have a time, their team cannot last forever.”
The remarks come amid a broader feud between Governor Fubara and former Governor Wike, reflecting a deepening political rift within Rivers State. The disagreement appears to be fueled by differences in governance style and the handling of state affairs, particularly in the context of ongoing development projects.
