Tinubu Restructures South East Development Commission, Names New Leadership
President Bola Tinubu has reshuffled the leadership of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), making significant changes to its board and executive team. The announcement, made by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, introduced new appointees and replaced several key figures.
The overhaul saw Hon. Emeka Atuma relieved of his position as chairman of the commission, with Emeka Nworgu stepping in as his replacement.
Key Leadership Changes
The reshuffle includes:
- Managing Director/CEO: Hon. Mark C. Okoye retains his role.
- Executive Director of Finance: Stanley Ohajuruka replaces Anthony Ugbo.
- Executive Director of Projects: Toby Okechukwu replaces Obinna Obiekweihe.
- Executive Director of Corporate Services: Chief Sylvester Okonkwo replaces Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.
- Additional Executive Directors: Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede join the board without specific portfolios.
One board member, Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, was removed, while others, including Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah and Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, retained their positions.
Expanded 16-Member Board
The revamped board now includes one additional member, bringing the total to 16. Other retained members include:
- Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu
- Nasiru Usman
- Hamma Adama Ali Kumo
- Edward David Onoja
- Orure Kufre Inima
- Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma
Mandate and Expectations
President Tinubu emphasized that the newly constituted leadership team is expected to pioneer innovative strategies to fulfill the commission’s mandate, focusing on the sustainable development of the Southeast region.
“The president believes that the nominees’ wealth of experience and expertise will drive the realization of SEDC’s goals, addressing pressing developmental challenges in the region,” Onanuga stated.
All appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
The restructuring reflects Tinubu’s broader efforts to reposition federal agencies and commissions to align with his administration’s developmental agenda.
