Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has explained his decision to part ways with Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, and a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a recent statement, Mohammed shared the reasons behind his shift in political allegiance, saying it was driven by a difference in approach to governance and personal ambitions within the PDP.
According to Mohammed, his relationship with Wike had initially been strong, as they both shared a common vision for the future of Nigeria and the PDP. However, over time, he began to feel that Wike’s leadership style and approach to party politics no longer aligned with his own values and goals. Mohammed pointed out that Wike’s decision to support certain factions within the party, particularly during the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, had created divisions within the PDP, ultimately leading to a disconnection between the two leaders.
The Bauchi governor also noted that Wike’s growing influence within the party, particularly his role in influencing party decisions, began to overshadow other voices and created tensions among key party members. Mohammed expressed concern that Wike’s political maneuvers were more focused on personal ambitions rather than the collective success of the PDP.
“I had to make a tough decision for the sake of unity and progress,” Mohammed said. “While we initially worked well together, the developments in recent months made it clear that our paths were diverging.”
In his statement, Mohammed did not specifically mention any plans to join another political party, but many analysts believe his break from Wike could signal a shift in his political strategies as he prepares for future elections.
