The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator, Ireti Kingibe, has reassured residents of the capital city that she will advocate for fair and transparent demolitions as part of urban development efforts.
In a statement released on Sunday, Senator Kingibe emphasized the importance of striking a balance between urban growth, compliance with planning regulations, and upholding the rights of residents. She stressed that while developing the capital city is vital, such actions must always be carried out in accordance with due process and fairness.
“As the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, my primary responsibility is to advocate for the welfare, dignity, and rights of every resident of the FCT,” Senator Kingibe stated. “Urban development and ensuring compliance with planning regulations are critical for a thriving capital city, but it is equally essential that these actions adhere strictly to the principles of due process and fairness.”
Recent reports of demolitions in the FCT have raised concerns among residents, prompting Kingibe to reiterate that any demolition exercise should be carried out with transparency, proper notification, and legal procedures. She emphasized that residents must be given sufficient opportunity to address concerns about their properties, ensuring no one is unjustly displaced or deprived of their rights.
The senator called on the authorities in charge of the capital city to prioritize dialogue and follow established legal frameworks in all their actions. She also underscored the need for government policies to maintain the trust and confidence of citizens.
