President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to the economic reforms initiated by his administration, making it clear that there are no plans to reverse the course.
Despite acknowledging the hardships Nigerians have faced due to the ongoing changes, the President emphasized that these reforms are necessary sacrifices for the nation’s long-term prosperity.
Delivering his speech on Wednesday during the presentation of the ₦47.9 trillion 2025 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, Tinubu urged Nigerians to trust in the process, assuring them that the challenges they are enduring will eventually lead to positive outcomes for the country.
“The path we have embarked on over the past 18 months is not an easy one, but it is essential for Nigeria to realize its true potential,” Tinubu said. “This journey of economic renewal and institutional reform is not one we chose lightly, but it is one we must follow for the future of Nigeria. I thank all Nigerians for walking this path of transformation with us.”
The President acknowledged the struggles faced by citizens as a result of the economic adjustments, including rising costs and inflation, but urged them to remain patient and hopeful. He assured them that these difficulties were temporary and that the benefits of the reforms would soon be evident. “The road to reform is difficult, but it is one that we must continue on. The sacrifices made today will not be in vain. I implore all Nigerians to keep faith in the process, as we work towards the collective goal of rebuilding our economy.”
Tinubu reiterated that his administration would not backtrack on its reform agenda. “We are committed to strengthening the Nigerian economy, and we will not deviate from this crucial path,” he said. “I have confidence in the resilience of both our economy and our people. The current challenges are tough, but I am convinced that the Nigerian spirit is unstoppable. Together, we will rebuild the foundations of our economy and our society.”
The President concluded by calling on Nigerians to continue their support for the ongoing reforms. “It is not easy, but I believe that with the resolve and determination of the Nigerian people, we will emerge from these challenges stronger and more prosperous.”
