Sanwo-Olu Unveils Lineup for Lagos End-of-Year Party Featuring Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, and Others
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed an impressive lineup of musical performances for the state’s end-of-year celebration, taking place tonight, Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
The governor announced via his social media platforms that the event, tagged “The Greater Lagos Countdown 2025,” would showcase some of Africa’s biggest music stars, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, and Seyi Vibez.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the state’s dedication to celebrating its cultural vibrancy and unity, describing the event as more than just a concert.
“The Greater Lagos Countdown is a celebration of our vibrant culture, our unity, and the indomitable Lagos spirit. Join us for a night of music, cultural showcases, and unmatched Lagos energy as we welcome 2025 the Lagos way – in grand style. This is Lagos. We’re different,” the governor said.
The event will take place across five strategic locations in Lagos—Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe. It is part of a series of festive activities, including the popular “Detty December,” which has drawn global attention to Lagos as a destination for holiday revelers.
While fans anticipated the inclusion of Davido, known for his hit song “Awuke,” he was noticeably absent from the lineup. This may be connected to the ongoing rift between Davido and fellow superstars like Wizkid and Burna Boy. Additionally, Davido has recently been vocal about his criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
Despite the drama, the Greater Lagos Countdown promises to be a night of electrifying performances, cultural exhibitions, and a grand showcase of Lagos’ unique identity.
