Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Criticizes Tinubu’s Reforms, Says Nigerians are Suffering
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 governorship candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, has criticized the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, claiming they have worsened the economic situation for most Nigerians.

Rhodes-Vivour pointed out that over 70 percent of Nigerians’ income is now spent on basic necessities like transportation and food, leaving little room for other expenses, including housing. He expressed concern that many citizens are struggling to make ends meet due to rising inflation, which he attributed to the president’s controversial economic reforms.
Beneficiaries of the Reforms
The LP chieftain contended that the reforms have mainly benefited a select group of people, including bankers, government officials, and individuals close to the president. “The only people that seem to be benefiting from these reforms are maybe the bankers, the people in government, and the President’s friends. How many Nigerians can say they are benefiting from any reform right now?” Rhodes-Vivour asked.
Criticism of Policy Direction
Rhodes-Vivour also expressed his dissatisfaction with the administration’s economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira. He described these measures as exacerbating the economic struggles of ordinary Nigerians, particularly given the country’s high inflation rate. “We have a situation where there is a culture of wastefulness and extravagance that does not reflect the dire economic situation that the same President is pushing out,” he said.
