Boko Haram terrorists launched a devastating attack on Bamzir village in Whuntaku District, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of Sunday.
Gists9ja reports that the attack, which occurred around 2:10 am, resulted in the destruction of the EYN LCC church auditorium and several houses.
Two brothers, Josiah Pogu Pudza and Enoch Pogu Pudza, lost their lives during the assault, while a woman identified as Esther Yohanna sustained a gunshot wound. In addition to the fatalities, the terrorists looted food items and livestock, further devastating the community.
The victims have since been buried, with the Chibok Local Government Chairman, Mustapha Madu, attending the ceremony. Madu extended his condolences to the bereaved family and conducted an on-site inspection of the damage, including the burnt houses, shops, and the church auditorium.
In a related development, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has denounced an explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State, also believed to be the work of Boko Haram. The attack, which occurred on Thursday, claimed the lives of several police officers.
Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi issued a statement commending the bravery of police personnel who resisted the attack. The Inspector General has directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to lead an operation to track down the perpetrators.
These incidents highlight the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria. Communities continue to face attacks that result in loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of residents. Efforts by security forces to combat the insurgents are ongoing, but the need for strengthened measures remains critical to protect vulnerable populations and restore peace to the region.
