The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, has announced that the agency generated an impressive ₦6.1 trillion in revenue for the year 2024, marking a significant 90.4% increase compared to the ₦3.2 trillion collected in 2023.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, January 14, Adeniyi revealed that the NCS exceeded its 2024 revenue target of ₦5.07 trillion by 22%. He attributed this achievement to improved operational efficiency, strategic reforms, and enhanced enforcement mechanisms within the service.
Gists9ja reports that Adeniyi noted that October 2024 was particularly remarkable, with the agency recording its highest-ever monthly revenue of ₦603 billion.
“This unprecedented performance in 2024 resulted in a total revenue collection of ₦6.105 trillion, which is 22% above the projected target of ₦5.07 trillion,” Adeniyi stated.
The Comptroller General also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize the Customs Service through digitalization, staff training, and strengthened collaboration with other government agencies, which contributed to the record-breaking revenue. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to sustaining this upward trajectory in 2025 by implementing additional reforms to enhance trade facilitation and curb smuggling activities.
The achievement underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s pivotal role in bolstering national revenue and supporting economic development.
