The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been named Minister of the Year for 2024 by ThisDay and Arise Television.
In a letter dated January 14, 2024, Mr. Eniola Bello, Managing Director of ThisDay and Arise Group, announced Wike’s selection as the award recipient, chosen from numerous candidates by millions of readers and viewers of ThisDay and Arise News Channel. The award presentation will take place on January 27, 2025, at Eko Hotels in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The letter of congratulations highlighted Wike’s outstanding service to Nigeria, Africa, and the world, emphasizing his dedication to public policy, leadership, and governance. It noted that his resilience and leadership during challenging times set him apart from other nominees.
Since assuming office, Wike has overseen significant infrastructural development in Abuja and its surrounding satellite towns. His efforts in land administration reforms have been particularly notable, ensuring that land allottees receive their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) within two weeks of payment.
Wike’s commitment to improving the land allocation process is reflected in the fact that, since taking office, he has signed 5,841 C-of-O documents nearly as many as the 8,400 signed over the previous eight years (2010-2023). With this pace, he is on track to exceed the total number of C-of-O’s signed during the previous administration. This achievement underscores his dedication to efficient governance and service delivery.
