The Bauchi State Chapter of the Northern Youth Assembly (NYA) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for the recent decision by the Federal Ministry of Health to reduce the cost of dialysis from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
This reduction is expected to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerians who require regular dialysis treatment.
The Assembly had earlier submitted a formal request to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, on November 28, 2024. Their appeal emphasized the need for subsidized dialysis costs, which had become unaffordable for many citizens.
In a letter of appreciation signed by the NYA Bauchi State Chapter Chairman, Isma’il Alhassan Musa, and made available to Naija News on Friday, the Assembly commended the ministry’s prompt and favorable response. According to the letter, this action underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of ordinary Nigerians.
“We are deeply pleased that the government has responded to the yearnings and challenges of the common people in the country. Honorable Minister, your actions demonstrate leadership with integrity, and we believe you are deserving of commendation. This intervention shows that you have the capacity to deliver more at any level of governance. We pray and hope for your continued success and future opportunities to serve,” the letter read.
The NYA also pledged its continued support for the administration and expressed optimism about fostering a positive working relationship with government officials in the future.
Bauchi NYA Chairman Praises Minister on Zamani TV
Speaking during an interview on Zamani TV, Isma’il Alhassan Musa expressed his gratitude to Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate for listening to their plea and acting decisively. Musa highlighted how the high cost of dialysis had caused undue suffering for many Nigerians, often resulting in tragic outcomes.
Recalling a recent incident, he shared: “A young man in dire need of dialysis had to undergo the procedure twice, but he couldn’t afford it and unfortunately passed away. May his soul rest in peace. This incident compelled us to write to the Minister, requesting a subsidy or even free dialysis for those in need.”
Musa commended the Minister for promptly addressing their request. “Just yesterday, we learned that the cost of dialysis has been reduced to ₦12,000 across all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. This significant reduction demonstrates the Minister’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of citizens,” he said.
The chairman also expressed hope that dialysis would eventually be provided free of charge nationwide. He cited Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum as an example, noting that Zulum had ensured free dialysis in his state since 2019.
“Our inspiration came from Governor Zulum’s initiative, which gave us the courage to approach the federal government. We are grateful to everyone who facilitated the delivery of our letter and ensured a positive outcome. This is a victory for all Nigerians in need of affordable healthcare,” Musa concluded.
The Northern Youth Assembly’s commendation highlights the importance of government responsiveness to citizens’ health challenges. This development serves as a step forward in improving access to critical medical care in Nigeria.
