The immediate past National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Alex Ogbonnia, has expressed immense joy over the release and return of Beatrice Ekweremadu to Nigeria.
Mrs. Ekweremadu, who was sentenced to six years in a UK prison for her involvement in an organ trafficking case alongside her husband, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, recently regained her freedom and has returned to Nigeria. Reports indicate that she arrived in Abuja on Tuesday, bringing a wave of relief and jubilation among her family and supporters.
Ogbonnia lauded the resilience and strength of the Ekweremadu family during their ordeal, describing Senator Ike Ekweremadu as a “nation builder” who made significant contributions to the development of Enugu West Senatorial District and Enugu State during his tenure in the Nigerian Senate.
Reflecting on the couple’s contributions, Ogbonnia remarked, “I want to thank God for His grace upon Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife. It’s jubilation galore across Enugu State because they used their opportunities to touch lives, showcasing the quality they possess.”
He further highlighted Senator Ekweremadu’s achievements as a public servant, particularly during his time as Deputy Senate President. Ogbonnia emphasized the senator’s commitment to representing the people of Enugu West and his impactful role in advancing the interests of Enugu State as a whole.
Addressing the broader impact of the Ekweremadus, Ogbonnia said, “The husband, in particular, represented the people of Enugu West immeasurably and impacted Enugu State as a whole. We pray that in no distant time, he will return to Nigeria to continue his good work.”
