President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering service to the nation, describing them as the country’s true heroes.
He assured them of his administration’s steadfast commitment to improving their welfare and providing necessary support for their operations.
The President made these remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and other facilities under the Nigerian Army Special Projects in Abuja.
During the event, President Tinubu expressed deep gratitude to the armed forces for their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
“You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you have been doing for this country,” he said, emphasizing their critical role in ensuring national security and stability.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to improving the welfare of military personnel, noting that such efforts are vital for the nation’s progress.
“What you are doing for Nigeria is remarkable. The only way to appreciate you is to continue to show support to the men and women in uniform,” Tinubu added.
Overview of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks
The newly inaugurated Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks is a state-of-the-art facility designed to address the accommodation challenges faced by personnel of the Army Headquarters and other military establishments in Abuja.
The project, initiated on November 26, 2022, by Major General Philip Eromosele and funded under the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, was completed on January 9, 2025, under the leadership of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
Facilities at the Barracks
The barracks include the following:
- 16 Major General Quarters
- 34 Brigadier General Quarters
- 60 Major-Colonel Flats
- 60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats
- 180 Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Flats
- 264 Corporal-and-Below Flats
- Worship centers, sports facilities, and a powerhouse.
Additionally, the facility is secured with a perimeter fence and three entry and exit gates to enhance safety and access control.
President Tinubu emphasized that improving the welfare of military personnel is essential for achieving operational success.
“Knowing that the federal government is always ready to provide what the troops need is essential for winning battles,” he stated.
He assured the armed forces of his administration’s resolve, saying, “It is your welfare we are not going to compromise.”
Earlier in the day, Tinubu also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Armed Forces Complex, located behind Lungi Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja. The complex is expected to enhance the operational and administrative efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The event witnessed the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including:
- National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
- Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
- Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar.
- Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.
- Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
- Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Forces, AbdulAziz Yar’adua.
Also in attendance were service chiefs, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, DSS Director General Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, and representatives from the Nigeria Immigration Service.
