A Physics teacher, identified as Muktar Salihu, was reportedly assaulted and beaten into a coma by students of Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) in Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State.

The students, who are in SS2 and allegedly operate under the guise of a cult group, attacked Salihu as part of a purported plan to assert dominance over the school’s administration. The injured teacher is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Key Suspect Linked to Traditional Ruler

Reports indicate that the group is led by a student named Abdulbatin, who is said to be the son of the Opokitipo of Esusu clan, a traditional ruler in the Okengwe district of Okene. This connection has drawn heightened attention to the case.

Calls for Immediate Action

A fellow teacher at the school has appealed to relevant authorities to address the growing issue of cultism in the college.

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, security agencies, and other relevant authorities to urgently intervene. Those responsible must be brought to justice to prevent future occurrences and restore discipline in our schools,” the teacher emphasized.

Police Intervention

The District Police Officer (DPO) in the area has taken up the matter, reportedly ordering the traditional ruler to present his son, Abdulbatin, for questioning. The deadline for compliance is set for tomorrow.
