Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has shed light on the challenges faced by female artists in the entertainment industry, highlighting the struggles of prominent singers Tems and Ayra Starr.
In a recent interview, he discussed how these challenges go beyond music, encompassing spiritual and emotional battles.
Odumodublvck praised the resilience and success of Tems and Ayra Starr despite the obstacles they face, particularly unwanted advances and pressures from industry stakeholders such as producers, managers, and promoters. He noted that these issues can distract female artists and make it harder for them to focus on their creative work.
He explained:
“Tems and Ayra Starr have achieved remarkable success, but people don’t realize the spiritual and emotional battles they face. Tems has to wear oversized clothes just to go to the studio because everyone wants to take advantage of her. Ayra Starr faces similar struggles. Imagine trying to create a hit song while dealing with constant distractions and unwanted attention from those who are supposed to support you.”
Odumodublvck emphasized how these challenges could derail female artists, stating:
“Imagine being in a studio as a girl, surrounded by men who aren’t focused on your talent but are thinking about something else. Producers might ask to meet privately to ‘work on a mix,’ managers might make advances, and even DJs, show promoters, and radio personalities can demand inappropriate favors. The pressure is overwhelming.”
The rapper advised women in the creative industry to remain steadfast in their values and faith, urging them to avoid compromising their integrity for short-term gains. He added:
“Women in the creative space, not just music, need to hold on to God. The industry can be ruthless, but staying grounded will protect you. Those who refuse to compromise often end up earning genuine respect. People will eventually say, ‘She didn’t give in, yet she made it.’”
He also cautioned against the belief that shortcuts or compromising personal values lead to success, warning that such actions could harm one’s career and self-worth in the long run. He concluded:
“Patience is key. Success takes time. Don’t trade your dignity or destiny for fleeting opportunities or a quick rise to fame.”
