President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Enugu State following a tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed multiple lives on Saturday.
The incident occurred at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu North, Enugu State, where a petrol tanker reportedly lost control and overturned, resulting in an explosion that killed at least 15 people.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the need for caution and strict adherence to safety protocols by road users, particularly operators of fuel tankers. He also urged relevant agencies to enforce stringent measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The statement read:
“President Bola Tinubu deeply sympathizes with the government and people of Enugu State over the fuel tanker explosion that led to the tragic loss of lives on Saturday.
“The unfortunate incident, which occurred along the Ugwu Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, saw the tanker spiral out of control and ignite a devastating fire.
“The President extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prays for the souls of the departed while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
“He calls for increased vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines among road users, especially fuel tanker operators, to prevent such incidents.
“Additionally, the President has directed traffic control and enforcement agencies to adopt additional measures aimed at curbing fuel tanker explosions across the nation.”
