An official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), identified only as Sylvanus, was tragically found lifeless on the streets of Lagos State.

A video that has since gone viral on social media captured the grim scene, showing Sylvanus dressed in burgundy traditional attire, lying motionless on the road. Surrounding him were several onlookers, including two police officers, who searched a small bag he had with him in an attempt to identify him.
In the footage, a police officer and other bystanders could be heard confirming Sylvanus’ identity after discovering his EFCC identification card. “Where does he work? Ah, it’s EFCC. His ID card is right there,” voices in the video echoed, revealing his workplace to those gathered around.
Despite confirming his identity, the circumstances leading to his death remain unclear. The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, acknowledged the tragic incident, stating, “The death is being investigated.” He assured the public that efforts were underway to uncover the truth behind Sylvanus’ demise.
This development comes less than two weeks after another EFCC official, Aminu Salisu, was killed during a raid in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. Salisu’s death had sparked debates about the risks faced by operatives of the anti-corruption agency in the line of duty.
The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about the safety of EFCC personnel, with many calling for greater protection measures for officials conducting anti-corruption operations.
