Just In: ‘APC Planning Another Shooting Using Thugs Disguised In PDP-Branded Wears’

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning a new shooting incident involving thugs disguised in PDP-branded clothing.

This accusation follows a prior incident where individuals in PDP-branded attire attacked the venue of the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal. The disruption led to the tribunal relocating its sittings to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee, led by Chris Nehikhare, claimed that APC-sponsored thugs are preparing to orchestrate sporadic shootings across the state, with the intention of inciting chaos and undermining peace.

Chris Nehikhare condemned what he described as a persistent assault on democracy by the APC. He urged the party to cease its alleged disruptive actions and prioritize adherence to the rule of law in governance and political activities within Edo State.

In an official statement, Nehikhare said:

“It has come to our attention that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State is planning to deploy another set of armed thugs, disguised in PDP-branded attire, to carry out sporadic shootings in the State with the intent to cause chaos and crisis.

“We dissociate ourselves from these planned shootings and violence. This is yet another attempt by the APC to tarnish the image of our party and instigate unrest in the State.”

The PDP has called on security agencies to investigate and prevent the alleged attack, ensuring that those involved are brought to justice. Nehikhare emphasized the need for stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the international community, and concerned citizens, to unite against what he described as divisive tactics by the APC.

The statement concluded:

“We warn the APC to desist from the repeated assault on democracy and allow the rule of law to guide governance in Edo State. Stakeholders must raise their voices to protect our democracy, guarantee the safety of Edo State, and uphold the rule of law.”

The party reiterated its commitment to peaceful politics and the preservation of democracy in Edo State, urging all political actors to prioritize unity and stability over partisanship and division.
