A police officer has been confirmed dead following an attack on the residence of Maharazu Dayi, Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State.
Gists9ja reports that the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, led to the fatal shooting of Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, who was on duty at the time.
Police Confirm Incident, Arrest Suspects
The spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident, stating that the officer sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
“Our personnel responded swiftly, and while the officer was taken to the hospital, he unfortunately did not survive. We have already arrested three suspects linked to the attack, and investigations are ongoing,” Sadiq stated.
An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, told Punch that the attack occurred while the chairman and his family were inside the residence. However, the security operatives on duty were able to repel the attack, preventing further casualties.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, troops of the Nigerian military have discovered a hidden cache of firearms in Zamfara State as part of their ongoing operation to capture the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.
The 1 Brigade of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin Daji, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), uncovered the arms stockpile in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area during an intelligence-led operation.
Operation Based on Intelligence from Niger Republic
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre for Operation Hadarin Daji, the arms discovery was made on Monday, January 27, following a well-planned covert mission.
He revealed that intelligence reports indicated the presence of suspected arms dealers operating from Niger Republic, which prompted security forces to launch a strategic pursuit along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road.
The military’s intensified crackdown on banditry in the North West region, especially in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto States, aims to curb the proliferation of arms and dismantle criminal networks responsible for violence and kidnappings.
Authorities have reassured the public that further updates on both incidents will be provided as investigations continue.
