Christianah Ademulegun, widely known by her moniker ‘Eye Opitan’, has passed away at the age of 74.
She was celebrated as the first indigenous broadcaster from Ekiti State and was renowned for her deep knowledge of the history and oriki (praise poetry) of Ekiti towns.
Her son, Femi Ademulegun, confirmed her passing in a statement, revealing that she died in the early hours of Thursday following a brief illness.
Ademulegun dedicated her career to broadcasting, serving at the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State before retiring. Even after retirement, she remained active in the media space, offering consultancy services to several private radio and television stations within the state.
Her contributions to the preservation of Ekiti cultural heritage through media earned her a special place in the hearts of many listeners and admirers.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and a legacy of impactful journalism that will be remembered for years to come.
