The viral footage, originally shared on Facebook by a user identified as Mayor Sylvester, captures the moment uniformed officers forcibly dragged the pregnant woman, ignoring her distress until she collapsed to the ground.
Condemning the excessive use of force, Sylvester wrote:
“This is what the Itam Police Station in Akwa Ibom State has turned the Third Party Insurance enforcement into. They are now acting like animals. These are the kind of irresponsible characters recruited into the force.
Imagine how a pregnant woman is being rough-handled. I just hope her baby is still alive.”
Public Outcry and Calls for Reform

Sylvester also suggested a more constructive approach to ensuring compliance, arguing that insurance representatives should be stationed at police checkpoints to assist motorists with renewals instead of resorting to force.
“If the police want to enforce third-party insurance, why not get insurance company representatives assigned to checkpoints? That way, motorists can renew their policies on the spot instead of being harassed and dragged to the station,” he added.
