A fuel-laden tanker erupted in flames at the A.A Rano filling station in Hannun Riga, Kontagora, Niger State, near the General Hospital and the ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police.
The fire incident, which occurred around 7 PM on Sunday, broke out while Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, was being offloaded.
Eyewitness Accounts and Emergency Response
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started suddenly during the offloading process, raising fears of a possible escalation due to the presence of other fuel storage tanks still containing petrol.
Abba Mohammed, one of the witnesses at the scene, described the situation as critical, stating:
“Fire Service personnel are currently doing their best to contain the fire, though the situation remains tense as the flames continue to spread.”
The outbreak of the fire caused panic in the area, with passersby and residents fleeing for safety. Fortunately, as of the time of reporting, no casualties had been recorded.
Authorities Yet to Respond
Efforts to contact the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullah Baba Arah, for an official statement were unsuccessful, as his phone line was unreachable.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but emergency responders are actively working to prevent further damage and contain the situation. More updates are expected as investigations into the incident continue.
