The South East APC Young Progressives Forum has strongly condemned the recent remarks made by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, regarding the political landscape in Anambra State.
Addressing a press conference in Anambra, Comrade Paschal Candle, National Convener of the Forum, criticized Senator Umahi for allegedly undermining the APC’s efforts in the state by suggesting that there is no opposition in Anambra and seemingly endorsing Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Candle expressed disappointment that Umahi, a senior APC leader in the South East, made such statements during the flag-off of the 35km link roads to the Second Niger Bridge, a project initiated under the APC-led administration. Instead of focusing on the infrastructure project, Umahi’s comments, according to the group, amounted to political sabotage.
The Forum described the Minister’s remarks as reckless and counterproductive, particularly in an election year when the APC is working to strengthen its position ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election. The group further questioned whether Umahi would tolerate similar comments being made in his home state of Ebonyi.
The APC Young Progressives Forum has called on Senator Umahi to clarify his stance, urging him to publicly reaffirm his commitment to the party’s success in Anambra.
“We want to believe that the statements credited to Umahi were mere political flattery. However, if he truly stands by those remarks, then he should steer clear of the Anambra 2025 election,” Candle declared.
The group also emphasized the significant progress APC has made in Anambra, including the establishment of offices in all 21 local government areas and 326 wards, positioning it as a formidable opposition to APGA.
The Forum warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership not to fall for APGA’s sudden alignment with the ruling party at the federal level. It accused APGA of historically demonizing APC, only to switch tactics when elections draw near.
“APGA cannot guarantee President Tinubu’s victory in Anambra better than an APC governor elected on the party’s platform,” Candle stated. He urged Soludo and APGA members to collapse their structure into APC if they genuinely support Tinubu’s administration.
Despite Umahi’s comments, the group reaffirmed APC’s strong presence in Anambra and expressed confidence in its chances in the November election. It urged party members and supporters to remain focused on their goal of unseating APGA.
“The APC is the party to beat in Anambra. The people are tired of Soludo’s authoritarian leadership, and the November 8 election will mark the beginning of a new era,” the Forum stated.
The press conference concluded with a strong message to Umahi: clarify your stance or stay away from Anambra politics.
