False Accusations: Edo Mob Lynches 16 Travelers Without Evidence, Sets Them Ablaze [Video]

At least 16 unidentified individuals were brutally lynched and set ablaze in Udune Efandion, Uromi, Edo State, after being accused of involvement in kidnapping activities.

According to local reports, the victims, reportedly a group of Hausa hunters, were traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano when they passed through Edo. However, they were intercepted by community members who suspected them of being kidnappers.

Videos of the horrific killings surfaced on social media early Friday morning, sparking outrage and condemnation. The graphic footage showed victims being mercilessly beaten before being set on fire.

In one of the videos, three men lay motionless on the ground, with a tire placed over one of them. Another man, bleeding profusely, was pushed toward the others. His body bore severe injuries, and he appeared to be struggling to breathe.

Another scene showed three more victims lying in a pool of blood, their backs pressed against each other. A man in a jean jacket, red top, and blue shorts was repeatedly struck with a stick.

As the recording continued, at least five victims were rounded up. A woman’s voice could be heard shouting, “Die, die.” Another man, dressed in yellow, was dragged from a gutter and struck on the head with a wooden object, leaving him bleeding and in critical condition. Shortly after, the attackers set fire to tires and continued beating the victims, even as they burned.

One chilling voice in the video urged, “Finish them.”

In another clip, the charred remains of a man could be seen while another body was dumped into the fire with the help of a wheelbarrow. The victim, still alive, screamed for help, but onlookers laughed at his distress. “Help me,” he cried, but no one intervened.

Four individuals managed to survive the attack, albeit with severe injuries. They were transported to His Grace Hospital, Uromi, for medical treatment. Their current condition remains unclear.

Public Outcry and Calls for Justice

The incident has ignited widespread condemnation, with human rights activists, legal experts, and community leaders demanding justice. Many have decried the rising cases of mob justice in Nigeria, warning of its dangers and the need for proper law enforcement procedures.

Extrajudicial killings remain a pressing concern in parts of the country, where frustrated communities take the law into their own hands due to distrust in the justice system. However, critics argue that such acts of jungle justice only contribute to lawlessness and human rights violations.

Authorities in Edo State have yet to issue an official statement regarding the killings, but pressure is mounting for an immediate and thorough investigation. The tragic event underscores the urgent need for legal reforms, public awareness, and strengthened law enforcement to prevent further occurrences of mob violence in Nigeria.
