The Kano State Police Command has dismissed circulating reports of an alleged attack on an 18-seater passenger bus and the killing of its occupants.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, categorically refuted the claims, labeling them as baseless misinformation. He urged the public to disregard the false reports and cautioned against the spread of unverified information that could incite panic.
According to Kiyawa, the police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the misleading news and identify those responsible for its dissemination.
“The Kano State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding law and order, safeguarding the lives and property of residents, and fostering peaceful coexistence within the state,” Kiyawa stated.
He further emphasized that the authorities would take appropriate measures against individuals or groups found culpable in spreading such unfounded rumors.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the upcoming 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations. This decision, according to Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, was taken due to security concerns and the need to ensure public safety during the festivities.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday, CP Bakori explained that intelligence reports had indicated potential security threats associated with the traditional Durbar procession. In response, the authorities decided to implement preventive measures to avert any possible disturbances.
“The security and well-being of Kano residents remain our top priority. Based on credible intelligence, we have opted to suspend Durbar activities for this year’s Eid-El-Fitr celebrations to prevent any breach of public order,” Bakori stated.
He reassured the public that the police force would deploy adequate personnel across the state to maintain peace and ensure a hitch-free celebration. Residents were also urged to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities that could threaten public safety.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to enforcing the law while encouraging citizens to remain law-abiding and refrain from activities that could jeopardize the peace and stability of the state.
