The Kogi State Government has prohibited embattled Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from holding her scheduled homecoming rally on Tuesday.
A circulated invitation obtained by The Whistler revealed that the suspended senator, who is currently contesting her suspension after accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, had planned a grand reception in her honor. The event was set to commence at 9 AM, with her constituents expected to gather in large numbers to welcome her.
However, the rally has been abruptly halted following a directive from Governor Usman Ododo, who has imposed a blanket ban on political gatherings, rallies, and certain public activities. The government cited intelligence reports indicating potential security threats as the rationale behind these restrictions. Additionally, the directive includes a suspension of fishing activities in specific areas within the state.
In an official statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring the preservation of peace and stability across Kogi State.
The statement further disclosed that a recent violent conflict linked to fishing activities in Kogi Local Government Area, particularly in the communities of Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, led to the tragic loss of two lives. As a result, all fishing operations in the affected areas have been suspended until normalcy is restored. Security personnel have been deployed to enforce compliance with the directive and prevent further escalation of tensions.
