RCCG: Pastor Adeboye Renames Church

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has officially renamed the RCCG Apapa Family to The Favoured Family.

This announcement was made on Sunday during Pastor Adeboye’s second visit to Trinity Towers, the headquarters of the RCCG City of David parish, which oversees the Apapa Family.

Accompanied by his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, he stated that the name change was inspired by a divine directive.

While delivering a sermon from 2 Kings 2:19-24, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the need for a fresh outpouring of grace upon the Apapa Family. He used the symbolism of salt and a new cruse to illustrate this transformation.

He explained that the salt represents divine restoration, the removal of bitterness, protection from negative influences, and accelerated progress. The new cruse, on the other hand, signifies renewal, the recovery of lost glory, and a revitalized spiritual fervor.

“If anyone had once been hot and had grown lukewarm, they would now burn brightly again,” Pastor Adeboye declared.

The RCCG Apapa Family has a deep-rooted history that dates back to 1991 when it was established at Roxy Cinema, Apapa, with about 50 members under the leadership of Pastor Tony Rapu.

Within five years, the congregation expanded to more than 45 parishes in Nigeria and internationally, supported by a dedicated workforce of over 500 individuals.

The core mission of the family is to lead people to heaven while nurturing leaders and fostering a community built on excellence, faithfulness, character, and integrity.

Their objectives include evangelism, promoting godly governance, and demonstrating the relevance of Christianity through innovative and modern expressions of faith.

Over the years, the RCCG Apapa Family has undergone significant growth and transformation, with various pastors contributing to its development. Following Pastor Tony Rapu, Pastor Eskor Mfon took charge and further expanded the Apapa Family Churches.

After Pastor Mfon’s passing, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade was appointed as the new leader of the Apapa Family. On September 1, 2024, Pastor Kayode Pitan succeeded Pastor Iluyomade as the Head of the Apapa Family.
