Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has sharply criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for avoiding opportunities that could clear his name in the sexual harassment accusations made against him by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
Akpoti-Uduaghan alleges that Akpabio sexually harassed her and denied her certain privileges in the Senate after she rejected his advances. Ezekwesili, in a post on X, questioned why Akpabio continues to block any attempt for an impartial Senate inquiry into the matter. She pointed out that both Akpabio and the Senate have denied Akpoti-Uduaghan the right to a fair hearing.
Ezekwesili echoed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statement, “This Injustice shall not be sustained,” expressing her belief that societies that tolerate injustice suffer from economic stagnation and inequality. She called on the Senate to clarify why it was obstructing the investigation and not allowing Akpoti-Uduaghan a fair process.
She further criticized Akpabio for avoiding opportunities to prove his innocence and highlighted the Senate’s role in supporting such obstructions despite violating its own rules. Ezekwesili emphasized that there could be no “moving on” without accountability, urging the need for due process and transparency in the case, which she described as an abuse of power by the country’s third-ranking official.
In closing, Ezekwesili assured that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan would not be alone in her fight for justice.
