A bricklayer identified as Bayo Jeje has reportedly fled his home after his wife gave birth to triplets at a private hospital in Igbokoda, located in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to sources, Jeje vanished upon learning from midwives and nurses at the hospital that his wife, Iyanu Ehuwa Jeje, had delivered three baby boys. The shocking development occurred on Monday, triggering concern and confusion among hospital staff at Aribo Hospital in Ilaje, who raised the alarm over Jeje’s sudden disappearance.
Witnesses at the hospital revealed that the new mother and her three newborns were left stranded without financial or emotional support from her husband. One of the sources recounted that Mrs. Jeje had initially sought medical attention at the Igbokoda Health Centre around 5 a.m. but faced significant delays due to the absence of an available doctor.
“Her condition worsened due to the prolonged wait, prompting her transfer to Aribo Hospital, where she eventually gave birth to the triplets. However, instead of celebrating the arrival of his children, her husband, who had been lamenting his financial struggles, chose to flee, leaving his wife and children without any assistance,” the source stated.
In the wake of Jeje’s disappearance, the plight of the new mother and her babies caught the attention of hospital personnel and concerned individuals. Fortunately, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has stepped in to provide support.
A hospital staff member, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the senator directed one of his aides, Juwon Ade-Aworetan Juwon, who also serves as the coordinator of the Ondo South Advancement and Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA), to offer immediate financial aid to the family.
The intervention has brought some relief to the struggling mother and her newborns, but concerns remain about the whereabouts of Jeje and the long-term welfare of the triplets. Community members and local authorities are urging support from well-meaning individuals and organizations to ensure the well-being of the mother and her babies in the absence of the father’s care.
The incident has also reignited discussions about financial preparedness for parenthood, particularly among low-income earners, as well as the need for increased community and governmental support for families facing economic hardships.
