Edo, Kano Political Leaders Address Uromi Killings Incident – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that the political leadership of Edo and Kano states has taken decisive steps to address tensions following the recent killings in Uromi, Edo State.

Speaking on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, stated that both state governments have developed an action plan and engaged in direct dialogue to prevent further escalation.

“You are aware that the political leadership of Edo State visited that of Kano State over the issue and families of the victims,” Kangye said, assuring that the situation has been politically settled.

Military Reaffirms Commitment to Security

Addressing concerns about rising herdsmen attacks across various states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Enugu, Benue, Ondo, Zamfara, and Cross River, Kangye dismissed claims that the military had reduced its efforts.

“The military has not abandoned the war against violent herdsmen, terrorists, and bandits. We have neutralized many of them, and we are continuing the onslaught to get rid of them and their leaders,” he affirmed.

He reiterated that ongoing military operations remain aggressive, with security forces working tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks across the country.

Niger’s Position in the MNJTF Still Uncertain

Responding to reports of the Republic of Niger possibly withdrawing from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Kangye clarified that such claims remain speculative.

He noted that the MNJTF, established under the Lake Chad Basin Commission, is essential for combating cross-border terrorism and criminal activities.

“If any country pulls out, it will have implications because the synergy of efforts will no longer be there,” he cautioned, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration for regional stability.
