On Thursday, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), officially handed over 19 individuals who had been rescued from kidnapping to General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
This handover was part of an effort to ensure the safe return of the victims to their families after enduring a traumatic ordeal at the hands of their captors.
Among the individuals released was Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (retd.), who previously served as the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Tsiga, a respected figure, was abducted on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Tsiga, a small village located within the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. His abduction had raised significant concern due to his prominence and the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Also among the freed victims was Ambassador Idi Hong, another distinguished individual who had been captured by the same criminal groups. The safe recovery of these individuals was seen as a major achievement in the ongoing efforts to combat the rising tide of insecurity across the country, especially in the northern regions, where kidnapping for ransom has become a serious problem.
The handover ceremony, which took place in the presence of key security personnel, was a testament to the coordinated efforts of Nigeria’s military, police, and other security agencies working tirelessly to secure the release of those taken by criminal elements. The families of the victims were overjoyed to finally reunite with their loved ones, after what had been a prolonged and distressing period of uncertainty.
This event underscores the importance of ongoing security operations and the dedication of security forces to bringing an end to kidnapping and other forms of criminal activity that have plagued communities in Nigeria.
It also highlights the need for continued vigilance and stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public to prevent such crimes and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
